EXACTLY! I’m like, this book has already taken over 45+ days of my existence, I can’t give up now! Update is, I finally “finished” it last night… and by “finished” I mean skimming over the last 50 pages then slapping it closed and chucking it across the room. Whoops.

I should not be giving you advice because when this happens to me I react the same way. I must finish to give the book any fair sort of judgment. Also, with all the time I had invested in the book I felt like I owed the book a complete read.

I am slightly embarrassed to admit this but I had a similar experience with Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. I started it and cast it aside 5 or 6 times before I finally broke down an finished it. It literally took me three months! It’s never taken me that long to read anything in my life. I hated every minute of it but was intent on finishing it. Oddly enough, I tackled The Fountainhead shortly after and rather enjoyed it.

A few times. I think the barrier you are having is that you feel guilty for not finishing it. I suggest saying to yourself, right I will stop reading for now but will pick it up later in the year when I am more in the mindset. It will allow you to read something different and know you will come back to it eventually.
