I read The Uncoupling by her last year. It's been my only read and to be quite honest, I'm unsure if I'd pick up another one of her books. Let me tell you, when I first read the synopsis I was stoked. It's a play off of the Greek play Lysistrata (essentially women use sex to manipulate the men in their community. The war must end!). Brilliant homage right? Create this small town where all of a sudden there's a 'dry spell' hitting the sex lives. Let's discuss gender roles and sexuality and...and..and- Oh the potential. Which for me just didn't live up to.

From my actual review: "Part of me wants to be enthused. Choosing a Greek play as the backdrop is quite smart and the writing ultimately was astute and witty. BUT sometimes it just felt like it was trying too hard to be that a SMART book. Does that make sense? Like, maybe it felt a little pretentious to me? And the ending. Sheesh. The whole time the novel is moving along I’m an intelligent buckaroo…and then as soon as the ending strikes, it’s as though the Cliff Notes version wrapped it up just in case I missed something."

Needless to say, others have claimed that she writes brilliantly. And perhaps she does. Perhaps I'm allowing this one book to push her out of my readingsphere forever (*que haunting music for effect*) but I really hate feeling talked down to.

How's The Position so far? Is she worthy?
